The Luxury Stone –Calacatta

Often misspelled as Calcutta, Calcata, and Calacata, this marble tile is also commonly mistaken for Carrara marble. Even though Calacatta marble is often quarried in the Carrara region of Italy and shares similarities with Carrara marble, for example, they are white with gray veining. And they possess several distinct characteristics that set them apart.
Calacatta marble is generally white with thick, dark and bold veining. It adds a striking look to the room when paired with the stainless steel appliances displayed in a kitchen or the white porcelain bathroom accessories. Calacatta is considered as a luxury stone for its precious rarity. Calacatta gold marble adds a splash of richness to the tiles, and it can emit the light of either warm or cool colors depending on what colors you match with it.

A natural stone marble, Calacatta Gold is a selection from the Calacatta Borghini and Calacatta Betolli quarries. These two quarries are next to one another and thus supply blocks that can be used to produce the Gold selection. The marble quarries are located in the Apuan Mountain range near Carrara, Italy.
Calacatta Gold will have a creamy white background with light grey veins and a mix of gold. The distinctive characteristic that makes this marble unique is the black pencil veining between the white background and grey veining. There will also be black spots that look like mica on some tiles. Calacatta Gold marble may be used with the following slab colors, since they come from the same quarry: Calacatta Gold Extra, Calacatta Super Extra, Calacatta Borghini and Calacatta Crema.

If you are using slab and tile on the same project, you will need to approve the color tone before installation. When installing white marble, you must use a white thinset. Using grey thinset will leave trowel lines and could stain the marble. This product will change from shipment to shipment; therefore, customer approval is required. Pin holes and stun marks are common in this marble. As a natural stone product, it is recommended that this be sealed to extend its longevity.
